Outfoxing Predators: How to Avoid the Exploitation of Older Adults - August 10th 2pm - 3pm

Join experts Barbara Martin-Worley and Linda Loflin Pettit for a fascinating look at the surprising number of scams and methods of fraud targeting older adults. The discussion will also incorporate a brief overview of other types of abuse directed towards seniors, including where to report fraud and new scams, how the police can help, how to help a friend or family member that may be victimized, and what agencies are available to help those who have been exploited. Don't miss this empowering presentation and learn how to be savvy and protect yourself and your loved ones!

Presenters

Barbara Martin-Worley is the Director of the CASE (Communities Against Senior Exploitation) Program for the Denver District Attorney's Office. CASE is a unique elder fraud prevention program in which prosecutors and law enforcement partner with faith communities, thus reaching a large and broad audience of older adults, their families and caregivers, and clergy and community leaders to educate, empower, protect, and assist older adults. Barbara brings over 25 years of experience in designing and directing programs and organizations that enhance the community, enrich peoples' lives, and assist older adults.

Linda Loflin Pettit is an Administrator in the Denver City Attorney's office where she manages an elder abuse prevention grant and program. She also coordinates the Justice Program for Older Adults and its ongoing coordinated community response to elder abuse in the metro-Denver area. Linda has 20 years of experience managing programs and agencies that work to prevent and end domestic violence, including elder abuse.

Medication Management for Seniors: Safe Practices and Helpful Tips - July 13th 2pm - 3pm
Understanding what medications you are taking, how they interact and making wise choices to manage this regimen can be a daunting.  The majority of seniors juggle five or more medications daily and for a growing number of Americans, forgetting a medication or taking the wrong dose can threaten both health and quality of life.  Our in-house expert, Nurse Practitioner, Jeanne Vogel, will discuss helpful tips and guidelines for managing this often complicated task.

Our first lecture:  Navigating Medicare will be held on Wednesday, June 8th from 2 to 3. Afternoon tea and baked goods will be served.  Our speaker, John J. Campbell, P.C., will guide your through the current healthcare landscape and provide tips and information on understanding Medicare, your eligibility and your rights. Open to the public and its a free event.
